Use this A-Z recycling and waste guide to help you make the best decision when clearing out common items from the kitchen, garage and everywhere else in your home.

Many items can be recycled into new products, saving valuable resources, energy, and landfill space. A cost may be associated with some disposal or recycling services – contact the provider first to check.

A

Absorptive pads (e.g. in meat trays)

Dispose in your landfill bin (red lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (fees apply)

Aerosol cans

Recycle empty aerosol cans in your recycling bin (yellow lid) or take to a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (no cost).
Dispose of non-empty aerosol cans for free through one of Sustainability Victoria's Detox Your Home events.

Aluminium foil

-Avoid by using a non-stick baking dish and lid
-When possible, use foil multiple times
-Roll foil into a ball about the size of a tennis ball before recycling through your yellow lid bin

Ammunition and firearms

Contact your local police station or premises of a licensed firearms dealer to arrange an appointment to surrender these items.

Apple brand products

-Can be traded in – visit the Apple trade-in website
-Recycle as e-waste at a Moorabool Shire Transfer Station (no cost)
-It is illegal to put electronic waste in your landfill bin (red lid). Never put any electronic item in a household bin.

Asbestos

- Visit the Asbestos Victoria website
- Contact Worksafe
- Contact the Victorian EPA

Asbestos is not accepted in any bin or at any Moorabool Shire Transfer Station.

Ash (fireplace ash from wood only; must be cold)

- Allow to cool and recycle via your home compost bin
- Allow to cool and place in your organics bin (green lid)
