One stop drop
Did you know that many of the products we use in our everyday lives end up in landfill, or contaminate our recycling stream because they are considered too hard to recycle?
There are many reasons why certain products can’t be recycled through your kerbside recycling bin. Items can contain multiple materials, making it hard to separate and process the raw materials within.
These complex materials often require specialised recycling technology to sort, separate, clean, and process into new resource streams. Small items such as plastic bottle caps and bread tags often get missed and end up in landfill because they are too small for industrial recycling machines to process.
As part of our Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030, we have teamed up with Teracycle to launch a ‘One Stop Drop’ recycling program for residents. Community members can drop off a range of hard-to-recycle items at any of our transfer stations or offices. Please refer to the One Stop Drop Accepted Items(PDF, 2MB) to see what you can drop off.
Terracycle is an Australian recycling company providing specialised recycling solutions to individuals and businesses. They work with brands and retailers who fund recycling programs. Everything you donate through the program is sent to Terracycle who sort, process, and recycle your waste into new products.
Who can use this program?
This program is offered to residents within Moorabool Shire. Commercial and business donations will not be accepted.
Where can I drop off items?
You can bring your items to any of our transfer stations.
What are my items turned into?
Plastics are separated by number, melted down, and turned into pellets that can be moulded and extruded to produce new products.
Metals are separated by type and smelted into ingots for reuse.
Glass is cleaned and sorted by colour for processing. It is then crushed and melted to be used in new glass products.
