Delegations and Authorisations

Delegations involve the transfer of a Council's power, duty, or function to its staff members through a formal process. This approach significantly enhances decision-making efficiency, allowing Council staff to perform essential services and handle routine administrative tasks effectively.

Council employs various 'instruments' to assign its powers, duties and functions. These instruments are vital for the Council's operations, as they provide the necessary authority for officers to act and make critical decisions on behalf of the Council.

Authorisations

Council staff or contractors can be authorised to undertake law enforcement or other duties on behalf of Council. The powers of authorised officers depend on the legislation under which they have been appointed. Council maintains a register of authorised officers, which is available for public inspection by request.
