Our shire is not your tip!
Report illegal dumping here
Our data shows that 76% of illegally dumped commercial waste can be traced to an offender outside the Moorabool Shire. This means residents and businesses from neighbouring local government areas treating our shire like a landfill!
Illegal dumping comes at a significant cost to our community. Not only does it look unsightly, but it impacts local wildlife and ecosystems.

Between 1 January 2024 and June 2025, Moorabool Shire Council’s:
- Litter Team completed 3,500 jobs – collecting litter and illegal dumping ranging from beverage containers, household garbage and furniture, tyres and more
- Community Safety Team issued infringements to the value of $247,000 – catching offenders dumping on our surveillance cameras or utilising evidence found in the dumped waste
- Expenditure on illegal dumping collection contractors for materials such as soil, building waste, commercial loads of tyres and asbestos exceeded $300,000
Council is actively addressing the issue of illegal dumping with increased patrols, surveillance cameras and a rapid clean up response.
Council hosted an illegal dumping summit at MARC Stadium with CEOs, Mayors, Councillors and staff from councils right across Victoria (metropolitan and regional).
Attendees discussed policy reform, upping surveillance, education campaigns and sharing resources. There were many great discussions with many more still to come.
For those who could not attend, recordings of each session and presentation can be found below.
