Expressions of Interest: Host your own program for the 2026 Moorabool Seniors Festival

Moorabool Shire Council is inviting local community groups, clubs and organisations to submit an Expression of Interest to host an event as part of the 2026 Moorabool Seniors Festival which runs from 1–31 October.

The Victorian Seniors Festival celebrates older Victorians and encourages opportunities for connection, participation and community celebration.  We are seeking a diverse range of events and activities that celebrate seniors in our community and encourage participation across the Shire.

What type of event can I host?

Your event can be as simple or as creative as you like.

Events may include an open day, come and try event or showcase an existing program you run. Ideas may include:

• Workshops - cooking demonstrations, gardening tips, technology sessions, health or service information

• Creative classes - such as jewellery making, painting, pottery, or crafting with natural materials

• Dance sessions - from ballroom and line dancing to Zumba or cultural dance

• Fitness activities - gentle movement, yoga, tai chi or guided walking groups

• Live music or performances - solo acts, choirs, dance groups or small theatre

• Art installations or exhibitions - showcase local talent or collaborative community art

• Cultural activities - storytelling sessions, traditional craft, cultural food tastings, or performances representing First Nations, migrant or multicultural communities

• Film screenings - classic films, local documentaries, or matinee movie days with discussion

You can even pool your resources and partner with another group to run an event together!

Who can apply?

Any local community groups, sporting clubs, volunteer organisations, service providers, business or not-for-profit organisations based in Moorabool Shire are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest.

Are programs required to be free or low cost?

Yes! We encourage your program to be free or low cost to support a wide range of participation of older people across the month. This could include:

  • Free entry where there would usually be a charge applied
  • Waiving participation or registration fees for the activity
  • Offering gold coin entry instead of a set fee
  • Removing ticket costs for performances, workshops or classes
  • Providing complimentary morning tea or refreshments
  • Subsidising costs so attendees only pay a small portion
  • Using donated materials so there is no supply fee to participants
  • Offering the event as a free community session hosted by your group

What support is provided?

Council will promote all approved events in Moorabool Council's own program guide which is distributed around the Shire. Your event will also be promoted on Council’s website and with posters if required.

Your event will be included in a coordinated festival calendar to help residents easily find and attend activities across the Shire.

Council officers are also here to help develop your idea!

Council has a small pool of funding available to support community groups planning something special for this years Senior's Festival. If your event or program needs a little boost to make it truly shine and it meets the funding criteria, we'd love to hear from you. To find out more or check if your idea is eligible, please email info@moorabool.vic.gov.au or call 5366 7100.

Why host an event?

Hosting an event is a great way to showcase your organisation, connect with the community, attract new members or participants and contribute to a Shire-wide celebration of positive ageing.
