Three Well Known Australians by Martin Shaw has been sparking curiosity and conversation since it first toured Australia in 1983. The artwork features three mysterious figures whose identities have never been confirmed, leaving viewers to puzzle over just who they might be.
Audiences are invited to join in by recording their own guess about the figures’ identities. These guesses travel with the artwork as it moves from place to place, building up over time. This exhibition forms a growing, ever-changing snapshot of Australian opinions, humour, and imagination—making the exhibition as much about the time we are in as the artwork itself.
