The shire has many areas where you can take your dog for a run off lead. Remember that these are shared spaces:

  • Peppertree Park, Bacchus Marsh
  • Federation Park, Bacchus Marsh
  • Moon Reserve -  adjacent to the Lerderderg River, Bacchus Marsh (from the pump shed to the bridge)
  • Reserve on the western side of Links Road behind houses in Pamela Court, Darley
  • Telford Park, Darley
  • Caledonian Park, Ballan
  • Road East Recreation Reserve, Mt Egerton
  • Lyndhurst Street Public Park & Water Reserve, Gordon
  • Parkers Road Reserve, Lal Lal
  • The vacant land at the southeast corner of the Dunnstown Recreation Reserve.

As of 2025, there is a designated off-leash dog park located at Masons Lane Recreation Reserve in Bacchus Marsh. This is the first designated off-lead area in the Moorabool Shire and was jointly funded by the State Government and Council.

A second designated park will be constructed at Bacchus Marsh Racecourse and Recreation Reserve (BMRRR) in the 2025-26 financial year.

The following locations also allow dogs to exercise off-leash, after 4.30 pm Monday to Friday and on weekends, when they are not being used for events or sporting matches/training:

  • Blackwood Recreation Reserve
  • Myrniong Recreation Reserve

If the following isn't being used for an event or sporting match, you can exercise your dog off-leash:

  • Bungaree Recreation Reserve - Bungaree-Creswick Road
  • Ormond Road/Western Highway Recreation Reserve, Wallace
