More than 40 events across Moorabool for Seniors month

A ukulele chord in Gordon, a quilting stitch in Lal Lal, a walk through Blackwood’s history or a seat at a live country concert - this year’s Moorabool Seniors Festival offers plenty of ways to try something different.

Throughout October, older residents are being encouraged to choose an activity they have never tried before, revisit an old interest or simply make time to connect with others.

“We’ll have more than 40 free and low-cost events and activities on offer, the program reaches across Moorabool and includes everything from music, movement and local history to gardening, technology, cooking and creative workshops,” Mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor said.

“At the heart of the program are two major events at the Bacchus Marsh Public Hall.”

The More to Explore – Moorabool Seniors Expo will be held on Friday 2 October from 10am to 12pm. The expo is a chance to meet local groups and service providers, discover activities and supports, and enjoy demonstrations including line dancing, tai chi and CaliFit. Free barista coffee and ice cream will be available, along with raffle prizes. No bookings are required.

On 9 October, the public hall will come alive with the sounds of classic country music for the Moorabool Country Concert.

Award-winning songstress Amber Joy Poulton will perform Honky Tonk Queens on Friday 9 October, featuring much-loved songs from Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. Attendees can dress as their favourite music icon, visit the photo booth and stay for a light lunch after the show.

The concert is free, but bookings are essential and tickets are limited.

Beyond the headline events, residents can step back in time with the Ballan Historical Society, learn more about My Aged Care at an Ageing Well at Home workshop, enjoy a morning of bingo, visit the Bacchus Marsh Men’s Shed open day or learn more about artificial intelligence with U3A and Moorabool libraries.

There are also opportunities to try line dancing, lawn bowls, calisthenics, memoir writing, cooking, choir, composting and much more.
