Council has been successful in obtaining funding from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) for the development of a new four-year Community Road Safety Strategy.
We are now looking for community feedback via an online survey on Council’s Have Your Say page. Community input is a vital component of the project and residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to provide feedback via the online survey.
The survey will help Council gain a clearer understanding of perceived road safety issues from the perspective of drivers, riders, and pedestrians, and identify potential opportunities for road improvements to inform the development of the strategy.
Mayor Cr Paul Tatchell is keen to get as much feedback as possible to help identify and address road safety issues in Moorabool.
“In the last five years there have been 665 casualty crashes in the Moorabool Shire, resulting in 457 serious injuries and 37 fatalities. These numbers are more than statistics — they represent real people in our community whose lives have been forever changed. It is important to bring those numbers down.”
“Council can analyse crash data and tap into the knowledge of staff and Victoria Police, however to get a better understanding of why crashes occur, where the main problems are, and the opportunities to make improvements, we need feedback from the local community and visitors to the Shire. We know that local knowledge is key to improving safety outcomes. We encourage everyone to have their say”
The survey is part of the initial phase of community engagement, with in person sessions scheduled for August 2025. These sessions will include a presentation of road safety data specific to Moorabool Shire, along with a discussion of the survey results and the key themes that emerge from community feedback.
Once the engagement process is complete, a draft of the Moorabool Community Road Safety Strategy will be developed.
The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and will close on Sunday 27July 2025.
