New path for Griffith Street Maddingley

Works on a new off-road shared path along Griffith Street in Maddingley are about to start, delivering safer and more accessible connections for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

The staged project will initially see the construction of a continuous off-road shared path network on both sides of Griffith Street, as well as upgrades to service lanes on the southern side of the road.

The improvements are designed to enhance safety, improve traffic flow and make it easier for residents to move through the area whether walking, cycling or driving.

Mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor said the project would provide long-term benefits for the growing Maddingley community.

"These works will significantly improve safety and accessibility along Griffith Street, creating a better environment for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists alike," Cr Venditti-Taylor said.

"As Maddingley continues to grow, it is important that our infrastructure keeps pace with increasing demand. The new path network will provide safer travel options and help create a more connected community."

To facilitate the works, approximately 30 sugar gum trees located on the southern side of Griffith Street will be removed.

Council will undertake replacement planting as part of the project, ensuring new trees are established in the area. Timber from the removed trees will be stored locally for residents to use as firewood, subject to availability. More information about this process will be made available at a later date.

Stage 1 of the Griffith St upgrades project is jointly funded by Moorabool Shire Council, the Australian Government and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).

Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2027.
