Published on 25 June 2026
Moorabool Shire Council invites the community to come together and celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 through a series of free events that recognise and honour the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year's theme, ‘50 Years of Deadly’, marks a significant milestone with celebrating five decades of NAIDOC Week and recognises the strength, resilience and contributions of First Nations peoples across Australia.
Celebrations will commence on Tuesday 7 July at The Village Green in Bacchus Marsh with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at 10am, led by a Wurundjeri Traditional Owner, followed by morning tea and coming together.
NAIDOC Week celebrations will continue Friday 10 July at Ballan Library at 2:30pm, where families are invited to enjoy a special cultural craft activity designed to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in a fun and engaging way.
Community members are then invited to gather in the Ballan Library courtyard at 3:30pm for a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by a Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Shannen Mennen, followed by afternoon tea. Moorabool Shire Mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor said NAIDOC Week provides an important opportunity for the community to recognise and celebrate the enduring cultures, knowledge and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“We are proud to celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC Week as we acknowledge the generations of Elders, leaders, artists, advocates and community members whose dedication has helped shape the nation and inspire future generations. We encourage our community to get involved in the celebrations.”
All are welcome and events are free to attend. For more information, visit Council's events page at moorabool.vic.gov.au/events
