From Nigeria to New Zealand, Italy to Columbia, Moorabool Shire’s Australia Day 2026 celebrations will bring together people from around the world as 56 new citizens officially call Australia home.

The new citizens, who also come from countries including India, the United Kingdom, Thailand, the Philippines and the United States of America will be welcomed during the ceremony at the Bacchus Marsh Public Hall on Main Street Bacchus Marsh, commencing at 9.30am.

Mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor said Australia Day is a powerful moment to reflect on the privilege of Australian citizenship and what it means to be Australian.

“Australia Day is a time for us to give a warm welcome to our newest citizens and acknowledge the importance of what it means to become a full member of the Australian community. There is no greater privilege than our citizenship. It’s a life-long commitment to Australia’s values of freedom, democracy, equality and respect,” Cr Venditti-Taylor said.

Cr Venditti-Taylor said citizenship is the common bond uniting all Australians, whether they are citizens by birth or choice.

An Australian citizenship affirmation ceremony will also give attendees the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to Australia while celebrating our newest citizens.

“I congratulate those becoming Australian citizens on making their commitment to Australia” Cr Venditti-Taylor said.
