Moorabool Shire Council has received national recognition for its innovative approach to artificial intelligence, being named a finalist in the 2026 Financial Review BOSS Most Innovative Companies, presented by KPMG Australia.
Council was recognised for “Trust before tech: from AI pilots to operational practice”, highlighting its approach to moving artificial intelligence beyond pilot projects and into everyday organisational practice. External recognition received by Council has also specifically highlighted its success in moving AI from pilots into everyday practice.
Moorabool Shire Council was the only government organisation in the country to be named as a finalist.
The recognition follows Council’s success earlier this year at the National HR Innovation Awards, where its People & Culture team received the Innovator of the Year – Best Use of AI award for three initiatives developed in-house: Maddi, the Section AI Academy and the Smarter Ways of Working program.
Those initiatives have focused on streamlining administrative tasks, developing staff capability and creating more opportunities for strategic, creative and community-focused work.
The Financial Review BOSS Most Innovative Companies recognises Australian innovation, with Council advised of its finalist recognition following the 2026 Most Innovative Companies Awards Dinner.
