Community grants refresh
Published on 07 August 2026
Council has adopted a refreshed community grants program designed to provide more support for local community groups, volunteers and organisations delivering projects to benefit the Moorabool community.
The updated program introduces a simpler four-stream grant structure, fairer co-contribution requirements, increased funding opportunities and a new year-round quick response fund, making it easier for community groups to access funding and bring their ideas to life.
The Community Strengthening Fund has doubled from a maximum ask of $5,000 to $10,000, supporting projects such as community programs, volunteer initiatives, arts and cultural activities, environmental projects and small facility improvements. The Community Events Fund has also increased from $3,000 to $10,000, providing greater support for events that bring communities together, celebrate local culture and attract visitors to the shire.
To improve accessibility for volunteer-led organisations, Council has reduced co-contribution requirements for many Community Strengthening projects. Groups applying for between $1,001 and $5,000 are now only required to contribute $1 for every $2 requested, reducing the financial barriers that can prevent worthwhile community projects from proceeding.
Mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor said the introduction of the quick response fund would provide year-round funding for urgent or unforeseen community needs.
“This will give organisations greater flexibility to respond when opportunities or unexpected circumstances arise, which is a great win for the community,” Cr Venditti-Taylor said.
Applications opened on Thursday 6 August 2026 and will close Tuesday 15 Septem/ber 2026. The application period has been extended to provide community groups with additional time to familiarise themselves with the refreshed program, understand the new funding guidelines and prepare strong applications.
“We’re encouraging community groups and organisations to speak with Council’s community development team early to discuss their project ideas and identify the most suitable funding opportunity before submitting an application,” Cr Venditti-Taylor said.
