Council has adopted its 2026-2027 Annual Budget, which includes $33 million of capital works, with almost $22 million allocated to new works.

The budget, which was adopted at an Unscheduled Meeting of Council on 24 June, delivers practical investment across Moorabool Shire, focusing on the roads, buildings and facilities our communities rely on every day.

Among the big-ticket items is $2-million allocated for an indoor pool in Bacchus Marsh, which is due to start construction during the 2026-27 financial year.

This allocation is part of the total $15 million funding commitment from Council for the $50 million project. An Expression of Interest process for interested building contractors is currently open and will close 20 July. More information is available on our website.

Other projects funded in the budget include:

  • Shire-wide annual reseal program ($1.8 million) delivering preventative road maintenance in places like Morrisons, Mount Wallace, Elaine and more
  • Ballan-Meredith Road at Morrisons ($1.2 million) - rip, re-sheet, re-seal and widening of the road, improving a key regional connection
  • Moorabool Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) Stadium grandstand seating - $675,000
  • Playground renewals including playgrounds in Wallace and Darley - $784,000
  • Delivery of CCTV, fencing, gates and signage across township facilities - $750,000

Mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor said the 2026-27 capital works program was designed to keep local infrastructure safe, accessible and fit for the future, while ensuring investment in urban areas, townships and rural communities like Mount Egerton.

“The program also includes targeted improvements in Mount Egerton, with upgrades to footpaths, car parking and additional tree planting,” Cr Venditti-Taylor said.

“These works will enhance safety, accessibility and local amenity, supporting everyday use by residents and visitors while contributing to the long-term liveability and character of the township.”
