Moorabool’s four-legged residents have an extra reason to wag their tails, with the official opening of the new dog park at the Bacchus Marsh Racecourse and Recreation Reserve (BMRRR).

The purpose-built space, which provides a safe, welcoming environment where dogs can run, play and socialise off-leash, was officially opened by Mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor and Member for Eureka Michaela Settle, today, 6 August 2026.

The new dog park has been delivered through a $600,000 investment, jointly funded by Moorabool Shire Council and the Victorian Government. Council received $300,000 from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action through the Victorian Government's New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program, with Council contributing the remaining $300,000.

The new facility includes a fully fenced off-leash area, double-gated entry points for added safety, shade structures, improved pathways and seating areas designed to encourage longer visits. Dog-friendly landscaping and space breakers have also been incorporated to help dogs explore and socialise in a safe environment.

Mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor said the project delivered a valuable new community asset that would be enjoyed by residents and their pets for years to come.

"Dogs are an important part of many Moorabool households, and we're delighted to provide a dedicated space where they can exercise, play and socialise safely," Cr Venditti-Taylor said.

"This dog park has been thoughtfully designed to cater for both dogs and their owners, with features such as shade, seating, accessible pathways and secure fencing creating a space people will want to spend time in."

Cr Venditti-Taylor said Council was grateful for the Victorian Government's support in helping bring the project to life.

"Partnerships like this allow us to deliver facilities that strengthen community connections and improve local amenity. We thank the Victorian Government for its contribution to this fantastic project."

BMRRR is now open for community use. For more information: www.moorabool.vic.gov.au/bmrrr-dog-park
