Council is inviting the community to acknowledge IDAHOBIT, the day against LGBTQIA+ discrimination with an afternoon tea at Ballan Library.

IDAHOBIT is held annually on 17 May, marking the date in 1990 when homosexuality was removed from the World Health Organisation’s classification of diseases.

“IDAHOBIT is recognised as a day for people to take a stand against discrimination while celebrating the rich diversity of LGBTQIA+ people within our community,” Mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor said.

“This year marks the fourth year Council has acknowledged the day, continuing its commitment to promoting inclusion and respect across the community.”

All community members are invited to attend an afternoon tea at Ballan Library on Monday 18 May from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, providing an opportunity for people to come together, reflect on the significance of the day and connect with others in the community.
