Official Launch of the Platypus Sculptures

Join the Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance to celebrate the official launch of the Platypus Sculptures at Lerderderg Library, and a new animation about protecting platypuses. This family‑friendly event features a special guest speaker, a video launch, a ribbon‑cutting ceremony, creative activities, and light refreshments.

Program

10.00am – 11.30am

  • Guest speaker Geoff Williams, Australian Platypus Conservancy
  • Screening of new platypus animation
  • Announcement of the Platypus Naming Competition winner. Enter the competition here.

11.30am

  • Ribbon‑cutting ceremony for the sculpture
  • Light morning tea

12.00pm – 1.00pm

  • Family activity session in the arena space
    • The Platypus Alliance will provide extra cardboard “bubbles” for families to paint and decorate.

 The event will also include displays about platypuses and their habitat.

 

This event is proudly supported by Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance, Moorabool Shire Council, WIRES, Community Bank Bacchus Marsh, Melbourne Water, Marshall’s Removals & Storage and the Australian Platypus Conservancy.

About the platypus sculptures

The platypus sculptures were created by renowned artist, Taro Iiyama, and installed by Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance in the Lerderderg Library to help raise awareness of platypuses living in the rivers of Bacchus Marsh and surrounds.

Installation of the sculptures was supported by Moorabool Shire Council, Community Bank Bacchus Marsh, Melbourne Water, Marshall's Removals & Storage, and the Australian Platypus Conservancy.

About the platypus animation

The platypus animation has been created by Ballan-based animator, Brad Clark, as part of Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance's "It Takes a Town to Save a Platypus" project, which is proudly supported through a grant from WIRES.
