Moorabool Shire Council is extremely disappointed to learn that a motion in Victoria’s Upper House to disallow the Environment Protection (Management of Tunnel Boring Machine Spoil) Regulations 2020, was defeated today.

The vote, which resulted in 15 yes and 21 no votes, effectively upholds the Environment Protection Authority’s (EPA) approval of an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for Maddingley Brown Coal (MBC) to accept, store and categorise contaminated soil from the West Gate Tunnel Project.

The EPA’s decision was made with no consultation with Council or the community, and we were hoping all Upper House Members of Parliament would recognise the potential impact to the community of the MBC proposal, and would disallow this motion until the community has been consulted properly.
