It is widely acknowledged that the disposal of contaminated soil is a major environmental and social issue for the West Gate Tunnel Project.
An article in The Age Newspaper (7 February 2020) has identified Maddingley Brown Coal as the preferred site to take the contaminated soil from the tunnel project.
Council has made numerous requests for information from relevant government departments and has also asked to be consulted before any decisions are made.
Council communicated key issues for consideration about the risks associated with contaminated soil to our community, the environment, and the impact to traffic and safety on our roads.
The lack of consultation to date has been disappointing. Council is urgently seeking a meeting with the Minister for Transport Infrastructure to ensure the process is far more transparent than it has been to date.
