Sections 74 and 223 of the Local Government Act 1989

Notice is hereby given that in accordance with section 74 of the Local Government Act 1989 (the Act) it is Council’s intention to set Councillor and Mayoral Allowances at the following rate:-

  • Councillor Allowance       -           $24,730 per annum;
  • Mayoral Allowance          -           $76,521 per annum;
  • In addition to the Councillor and Mayoral allowance the equivalent of the superannuation guarantee contribution (SGC) (currently 9.5%).

By Order-in-Council published in the Victoria Government Gazette G47 on 23 November 2017, the Moorabool Shire Council was classified as a Category 2 Council with allowances for Councillors being within a range of $10,490 and $25,225 and the allowance for a Mayor being up to an amount of $78,051 per annum.

On Wednesday 7 February 2018 at its Ordinary Meeting, Council resolved that the proposed Councillor and Mayoral Allowances be retained at the current level of:

  • Councillor Allowance - $24,730 per annum
  • Mayoral Allowance - $76,521 per annum; and

authorised officers to give public notice in accordance with section 223 of the Act.

Any person may make a submission to the Council in relation to the setting of Councillor and Mayoral Allowances in accordance with Section 223 of the Act.

Written submissions should be forwarded to the Chief Executive Officer, Moorabool Shire Council, P.O. Box 18, Ballan, 3342, and received by Council by 4.00pm on Tuesday 13 March 2018 and will be considered by the Council (or a Committee of the Council appointed for that purpose) in accordance with Section 223 of the Act.

Any person who wishes to be heard in support of a submission should indicate in the written submission that he or she wishes to be heard. Any person requesting that he or she be heard in support of a submission is entitled to appear before a meeting of the Council (or Committee) either personally or by a person acting on his or her behalf and will be notified of the time and date of the meeting.

Submissions made under section 223 of the Act are not confidential and:

  • Will be incorporated in full (including any personal information) into the agenda and minutes of any Council or committee meeting at which the matter is considered;
  • Will be provided on Council’s website as part of any relevant Council or committee agenda and minutes.
