Council’s community grants program is opening again on 1 March 2021!
Mayor Cr Tom Sullivan is encouraging community groups to apply for a 2021 grant. Council gives more than $270,000 in funding each year to local community groups, events, and artists to brighten up our region.
From the previous round of grants, the program will this year deliver a local drive-in, local art installations and the planting of 400- 500 local indigenous trees, shrubs, and herbs.
Cr Sullivan said the program provided residents and community groups opportunities to launch projects that make a real difference to our towns.
“All the projects delivered through this program bring our towns to life. During COVID-19 restrictions, it was fantastic to walk through our towns and see bright art installations and new trees,” Cr Tom Sullivan said.
“Without this program and the collaboration between Council and community groups, many of these groups would be relying on financial support from corporate lenders or donations. This program removes the economic stress and instead focuses on the deliverables.”
Individuals, community groups and organisations can apply under the following grant categories:
Community Strengthening - Community programs, activities or initiatives, capital improvements and small projects.
Community Arts - Community arts activities or initiatives that link artists with local communities through small projects, publications, exhibitions, performances, or other similar activities.
Community Events - Community events that showcase local talent, provide public entertainment, foster community participation, connectedness, and diversity.
Sustainability and Environmental Engagement - Supporting community groups in reducing expenditure on gas and electricity appliances, investing in sustainability measures such as solar hot water and solar panels. Or providing opportunities to raise awareness of environmental issues to the broader community in different ways.
Development Fund – Supporting community infrastructure projects that have significant impact on community development, liveability, and wellbeing.
Applications open on Monday 1 March and close Wednesday 31 March 2021.
