150th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Shire of Bacchus

On January 27, 1871 the Victorian Government Gazette (No. 6, pg 136) gazetted various road districts to be shires. The extract reads:

“At the Executive Council Chamber, Melbourne, the twenty-third day of January 1871 …..The Bacchus Marsh and Maddingley Road District, which was created by a Proclamation bearing date the twenty-seventh day of September 1836, and was altered by another proclamation bearing date the twenty-fourth day of August 1863, and was divided into electoral sub-divisions by an Order of the twentieth day of May 1867, shall be and is hereby constituted and shall be named the “SHIRE OF BACCHUS MARSH….”
