The Gold Panning Championships are conducted by the Victorian Gold Panning Association incorporated, in affiliation with The World Gold Panning Association.
The aim of the Association is to promote the skill of gold panning in an air of friendly competition. We see Gold Panning Championship as a Celebration of an important part of Australia’s Heritage!
Categories are organised to cater for all ages and skill levels. Finals between the fastest recorded times will be conducted for Men’s and Women’s skilled, and the Eureka challenge.
This year we will be taking pre-registrations. Please email email@example.com the categories you wish to enter and the number of entries. This will allow faster scheduling of heats.
The Eureka Challenge
The Eureka Challenge is a gold panning competition using traditional steel pans. Pans will be supplied to all competitors in the Eureka Challenge. All other categories are open to modern pans. Personal pans must meet the scrutiny of the Disputes Committee.
Registrations: 9.00am - 11.00am
Heats: 10:00am - 3:00pm
Finals: 3:00pm - 4:30pm
Competitors are provided with a bucket containing a set number of gold flakes. The time taken to pan off and recover the gold flakes is recorded. A time penalty is applied for any gold flakes that are missed. The panners with the fastest adjusted time advance to the finals. Additional competition rules will be on display at the championships.
Finals are held for each major category and are made up of panners who have recorded the fastest times during the heats. Trophies are awarded to all category winners.
This year, we are aiming to run a handicap event where a panners starting time will be altered according to their heat times.
Category Entry Fees
Participation in additional heats for these categories will be available depending on numbers of entries. The cost for entry in additional heats will be advertised on the day.
Stake Your Claim
Once again, “Stake your Claim” will be held whereby each entrant will peg out a section of ground for the chance to win one of two gold nuggets.
All competitors will receive a Certificate of Participation and a phial containing several gold pieces! Presentations to all place getters will commence at approximately 4.00pm.
