Moorabool Shire Council Library Services is applying for a State Government “Living Libraries” grant to carry out a re-fit of the Rural Library van.  To help inform the development of the application for funding, we would like to hear your thought on a range of issues specific to the operation of the Rural Library Service.

The proposal to re-fit the Rural Library Van will include the following aspects:

  • Branding of the van to increase visibility and increase awareness of the Library Service
  • Ability of the Van to carry a much broader range of resources, including a wider selection of books, fiction and non-fiction, audio books, DVDs and magazines
  • Enabling the service to be taken to more areas and reach a wider range of Shire residents which will help attract new members.

A fully functional rural library van can visit community festivals, aged care facilities, rural schools, train stations and shopping centres.  Visits to small rural schools around the Shire will provide opportunities to deliver storytime activities and resources to schools with limited capacity to do so. Most importantly, it has the potential to reduce social isolation felt by those living in remote parts of the Shire, with limited access to static libraries in Bacchus Marsh and Ballan.
