Road fix blitz

Moorabool Shire residents will notice an increased work crew out and about fixing our roads, after Council recently voted to increase its road maintenance budget by up to $600,000.

The decision was made to increase the budget as constant rain and storms have resulted in deterioration of the road network.

Mayor Cr Tom Sullivan said the motion moved by Cr Paul Tatchell in urgent business at the November Council meeting was good for the community, as more work would be completed in a smaller amount of time.

“There is a lot of work to be done on our roads, we understand that,” Cr Sullivan said.

“Recent storms and rain have created many problems. We’re being very proactive in making plans to have the roads fixed up as quickly and effectively as possible.”

Council will be able to claim some road repairs under the State Government’s Disaster Recovery Fund and an additional recently-announced fund – the Council Flood Support Fund, but these funds don’t cover repairs to all the issues on the large road network.

“This extra $600,000 on top of what we have already set aside to maintain and fix our Council-owned roads in the Budget, will result in obvious improvements to roads across our entire Shire.”
