New infrastructure and industry at Parwan Employment Precinct are a step closer thanks to a $200,000 grant to carry out the network planning required to connect power, water and sewerage to the area.
Council successfully advocated for the State Government funds, through the Investment Fast Track Fund.
Mayor Cr Tom Sullivan joined State MPs Michaela Settle and Steve McGhie to announce the funding.
“We thank the State Government for this contribution, which is vital in enabling us to attract agribusinesses and industry to this site,” Cr Sullivan said.
“The Parwan Employment Precinct is a very important part of our growth as a Shire, with the potential to result in around 1500 jobs and economic benefit. This is a big step in setting it up to be the precinct we envision.
“We currently have around 60 per cent of residents leaving the Shire for work. If we can provide local jobs in the agribusiness and industrial sectors in the Parwan precinct, what a great thing that would be for our Shire.”
Now that the investment has been funded by the State Government ($200,000), with co-contribution from Council ($25,000) and Greater Western Water ($25,000), Council will turn its attention to advocating for funds to build infrastructure on the site.
“We will require a significant commitment from Federal, State and industry partners to actually build the necessary infrastructure for power, water, sewerage and drainage. Hopefully these funds come through so we can deliver a fantastic economic benefit for our whole Shire,” Cr Sullivan said.
