Moorabool Shire Council Mayor Tom Sullivan, Councillors and staff were delighted to join the Premier of Victoria, Dan Andrews, and local State Members of Parliament in attending a funding announcement today for stage 1 of an indoor stadium at the Taverner St sporting precinct site.

Council has committed almost $15 million to build a 4 court multi-sport indoor stadium and has welcomed a State Government contribution of $1.92 million for the project.

“This stadium is the first step of our Moorabool Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) project – which will eventually house an indoor pool and regional bowls facility,” Cr Sullivan said.

“It’s so exciting to get this off the ground, this is going to be a premier sports precinct for our Shire, that will benefit the whole Shire and beyond.”

A variety of sports will be played at the stadium, predominantly basketball, netball and volleyball. Representatives from the Bacchus Marsh Basketball Association and Bacchus Marsh Netball Association joined the celebrations today to officially turn the first sod on the build. In addition to the Premier, State Members of Parliament Michaela Settle and Steve McGhie also attended.

Work will commence on the site this month, with construction due to be completed mid-2023.
