Mill Park Transformation
Published on 20 May 2022
Works to transform a tired park in Ballan into a vibrant recreational precinct are set to begin towards the end of May.
Mill Park will gain an extensive skate park and pump track; 3x3m basketball practice court and ring, complementing the existing Ballan Outdoor Pool.
The works aim to support and implement the recommendations of the Mill Park Master Plan, which was endorsed by Council in December 2020.
Final design works are also underway for landscaping improvements around the precinct.
Skate park specialists CONVIC have been contracted to construct and install the skate park, which is expected to be completed by July 2022. CONVIC will also be installing a smaller skate space at the Gordon Public Park.
In late 2021, CONVIC, in consultation with Council, embarked on an engagement campaign with the Ballan community, sharing the initial skate park design and asking for feedback.
As a result of the feedback, several changes were made to the design including a taller mini-ramp, (some) transitions now taller in height, the spine ramp is now taller and wider and tree plantings have also been added to the construction works, providing shade in the summer months.
This project is a reality thanks to funding from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, for the works to be constructed over 2022-2023.
Future works at the precinct will include a brand new play space, splash park and toilet block.
