Creating more local jobs and improving visitor experience to our small towns are major focuses of Council’s Draft Economic Development Strategy 2023-2027 and draft Visitor Economy Strategy 2023-2027, both currently out for community feedback.

Council wants to hear from residents, local business owners and visitors on the strategies during the public exhibition period, with feedback used to inform the final strategies.

Mayor Cr Rod Ward said the two strategies were vital pieces of work that would inform the direction of Council in the economic development and tourism space.

“Some of the actions out of the Visitor Economy Strategy include working on branding and promotion to attract visitors; town centre enhancements and attracting investment in our small towns throughout the shire; undertaking a trails masterplan for hikers and cyclists; working with local sports clubs to support development of sports tournaments; and working with producers to establish open farm weekends in the shire,” Cr Ward said.

“In the Draft Economic Development Strategy, the focus is on supporting business growth and development, local workforce attraction and retention, and improving transport links.”

Both strategies will be out on exhibition for community feedback until 11 June.
