Council’s top advocacy priorities for Moorabool Shire were presented to the federal government in Canberra this week, with Council’s CEO Derek Madden and Councillor Moira Berry making a quick trip to the capital.

Cr Berry is representative of the Peri Urban Councils Victoria and along with Mr Madden, was part a delegation to ensure the top priorities for Moorabool Shire and other peri urban councils were heard by federal politicians and relevant agencies.

Cr Berry and Mr Madden met with representatives for the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King and Federal Education Minister Jason Clare, among other Ministers and top-level government representatives.

“We have ensured the Peri Urban Councils Victoria group understands our local priority projects that require funding from other levels of government, and it was great to have the opportunity to discuss these in person with several Ministers,” Mr Madden said.

“Top of the list for priority projects are an indoor pool to complete our Moorabool Aquatic and Recreation Centre in Taverner St, Bacchus Marsh. We’re still after federal funding for this project, with Council and the state both having funds committed to it.

“We also highlighted the need for much-needed infrastructure and significant investment in our roads network, for our rapidly growing communities throughout the shire.”

Mr Madden said off the back of the visit, he would invite any relevant Ministers and our local Members of Parliament to meet with the Mayor and Councillors in Moorabool to personally look at potential projects and discuss issues in person.
