The majority of Moorabool was affected by the major storm event that hit Victoria on Wednesday 9 June. Compounding this event was the loss of power, communications, landlines and mobiles and network coverage.

In partnership with Bushfire Recovery Victoria, Moorabool will be hosting two online community sessions in October to engage with the communities recovering from the June Storms.

Join us for a free snag and a chat with the Storm Team and your fellow residents. Supported by the Salvation Army, the Red Cross and the Victorian Council of Churches. 

Please join us for a live talk with clinical psychologist Dr Rob Gordon, as we mark exactly six months since the June major storm event.

Central Highlands Water have installed a new generator in Blackwood, with the capacity to provide up to 48 hours of back-up power to the community. This is a response to the extensive power outages that occurred during the June 2021 storm.

Sunday 2 October:

  • 10am-midday: Dales Creek (At the water tanks on the corner of Acacia Avenue and Dales Creek Avenue)
  • 1pm-3pm: Blackwood Post Office (23 Martin Street, Blackwood)

Sunday 9 October:

  • 10am-midday: Barkstead (At the water tanks where Barkstead Rd meets Barkstead Rd South)
  • 1pm-3pm: Korweinguboora Recreation Reserve (1399 Ballan-Daylesford Road, Spargo Creek)

Along with much of the state, Moorabool Shire has been hit with heavy rainfall this month, peaking on Thursday 13 October. A total of 90-100mm of rain is estimated to have fallen during the event. Flash flooding occurred in townships right across the Shire and multiple roads were closed.

As a result of new funding provided by Emergency Recovery Victoria, the Moorabool Shire Council Storm Recovery team is excited to present a program of free activities for the communities impacted by the devastating storms in June 2021.
